All Day In Bergen

All Day in Bergen, Day 2

Get the feel, take the walk...

Up late and called the desk to change the time for our walking tour of Bergen, originally scheduled for 9:30. Changed the time to 2:00 as our butts were still dragging from no sleep on the way over.

Skies are gray and overcast but the weather report calls for zero chance of rain. Last time we listen to the weather report for this part of the world as we now know it rains in Bergen an average of 220 days a year. Today turned out to be no exception.

Had a leisurely breakfast, wandered the ship some more to find out where everything is, a light lunch and tour (about 30 in the group) of the port of Bergen. The town originally was founded in the 1100's and for much of the time since has been in German control, both by royal family control or conquest.

By golly, the Viking Star is parked in this guy's back yard!

Cobblestone streets all over this very hilly city.

Sure enough, the weatherman was wrong. 1/2 way through our walking tour, it started to drizzle. We returned to the ship and went to the Explorer's Desk to verify/change times for tours going forward. We also clarified reservation times for two of the restaurants. There are four specialty restaurants on board in addition to the general restaurant, the pool cafe, and two other venues for snacks 24/7.

The best part is Creme Brule is available every night. Along with New York Strip steaks.

Did I mention the bathroom floor is heated?

Made reservations for both of us to have massages on Day 9. May have to sell the house when we get back in order to pay for this trip.

Anyhow, we set sail at 5:45 en route Flam, Norway. As Flam is not on the coast and this is a ship, we anticipate winding up fjords to get there. We can't wait!

Had a pretty good dinner, Toni with lobster (not great) and Lee with a steak (pretty ok, not really up to snuff.) Met four folks at dinner that seem pretty cool, probably will tour St. Petersburg with them later on the trip.

Off to bed, looking forward to tomorrow.
