Stavenger, Norway
Stavenger-Day 4
After an overnight trip, we pulled into Stavenger harbor at @7:00, an hour after the sun had come up with fury. It is nice to see the sun again.
The harbor entrance and pier are both small. To see the ship swing 180 degrees in its' own length and back into the berthing area is quite a sight. All done very quickly and with a minimum of apparent fuss.
Today's tour is titled "Pulpit Rock'. A boat tour out of the harbor further up a fjord to view a rock formation that juts out of the sheer cliffside face in the shape of a church preaching pulpit. Yes, a trip to look at a rock!
The tour began at 9:30 and ended back on the ship at 1:30, just in time for our 2:00 sailing. We had no time to wander the city as the trip to our next port, Allborg Denmark, is 337 miles across the Baltic.
It turns out the tour was great. A sunny day (a tad chilly with winds) and the companionship of a couple we had previously met at dinner made it a great day. The Pulpit Rock was indeed unique in formation and we were able to see Norwegian hikers who had managed to clamber to the top.
Pulpit Rock.
We had dinner in the 'World Cafe' (not the sit-down restaurant) and it turned out quite well.We met some friends from Woodstock (the Germroth's), made some new friends (folks from Arizona), talked to a Supervisor of the dining area (who misses his wife and kids for eight months a year), and had lots of pretty good wine.
After dinner, we adjourned to the three deck high Atrium to listen to the Captain introduce his management team. Quite a crew.
Off To Denmark, Allborg first stop.
Did I mention the bathroom floor is heated?
